- Before you get started, make sure the surface of the item you’re painting is nice and smooth, dry and free from any dust, oil, rust or other contaminants. When working with vintage furniture, you’ll often need to firstly remove old varnish, loose paint or wax coatings, as they can react with new paint and ruin your smooth finish. Remove these with a wire brush or sandpaper, then lightly sand back glossy surfaces.
- Next, use soapy water and a damp cloth to clean the surfaces you’re going to paint. Once it’s rinsed and thoroughly dried with a clean towel, you’re ready to start.
- Shake your can of Rust-Oleum vigorously for one minute. When you’re ready to spray, make sure you’re holding it upright, 30cm from the surface.
- Steadily spray in a back and forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats within minutes and leave your furniture to dry. It won’t take long! The great thing about Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover is that it covers surfaces with minimum effort and dries fast.
